Admission Procedure

1. Initial Screening

Candidates are evaluated by admission counsellors based on DG Shipping eligibility (age, qualification, etc.). Basic guidance on Merchant Navy career is provided. Application begins with a form and a non-refundable fee of ?500 in favor of Sealight Ship Management LLP.

2. Test & Interview

Applicants for Diploma/Degree courses must appear for a written test (MCQs + English assessment) and a personal interview to gauge suitability for marine life.

3. Counselling

Shortlisted candidates are counselled on their pre-sea and post-sea training pathways.

4. Medical Examination

Candidates must undergo a medical test by a DG Shipping-approved doctor, as per MS (Medical Exam) Rules, 2000.

5. Admission Confirmation

Upon clearing medicals and fee submission, an admission confirmation letter is issued. Remaining fees can be paid in instalments.

Other Admission Routes

•      Entrance Exam (IMU-CET):

Required for technical programs like Marine Engineering. Some institutes may admit based on Class 12 marks.

•      Sponsorship Based Entry:

Apply through shipping companies’ training institutes. Sponsorship for ship training is granted post-course completion.

•      Lateral Entry (LE):

Direct 2nd-year admission into Marine Engineering for:

o          Candidates with 1st-year completion in Mechanical/Electrical Engg. (Min. 60%)

o          Diploma holders in Mech/Electrical/Marine/Ship-Building Engg. (Min. 60%)

 

RULES & REGULATION

  • All candidates are bound by the rules mentioned and any updates made without prior notice.
  • Fees must be paid as per the schedule. Delays will attract late fees without exception.
  • Payments must be made in the name of Sealight Ship Management LLP only.
  • Fees once paid are non-refundable, including in case of discontinuation.
  • Candidates must follow all instructions in the prospectus and admission letter.
  • Academy uniform is mandatory throughout training and will be issued within one week of joining.
  • Smoking and alcohol are strictly prohibited; violations will lead to disciplinary action.
  • Long hair, moustaches, and beards are not allowed during training.
  • Religious/personal practices must not interfere with training; can be observed in free time.
  • Candidates are responsible for maintaining their rooms. Any damage will be chargeable.
  • Gold ornaments and personal electrical items are not permitted on campus.
  • Post-training or expulsion, entry is restricted without prior campus approval.
  • Placement will depend on eligibility, budget, and performance. It may be in Indian or foreign waters.
  • All costs related to onboard training and placement are to be borne by the candidate.

  • Guardians are advised to maintain monthly communication with their wards.
  • Candidates must stay updated with any rule amendments.
  • Strict action will be taken against rule violations, misbehavior, or misconduct.
